Hi!
I like and appreciate your website. I saw your site advertised locally--on an SUV, although a smaller one. Is there a list somewhere of SUVs and their gas mileage, or categories of SUVs? Are you just talking about the larger ones, in terms of poor gas mileage, etc?
Judy

hi Judy... thanks!! i'm glad you like the website - hopefully it will just get better. actually there is a page on the EPA's website... try this link and look around - they have some good information about all kinds of cars including SUVs. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/why.shtml

if you're writing from the south bay, the pathfinder is a smaller SUV. SUVs have grown to obnoxious proportions over the last decade. the pathfinder is pretty bad though. it has the same sized six cylinder engine as my accord and gets less than half the miles per gallon, primarily because it's heavier and has a poor aerodynamic profile. it's also top heavy and spooky to drive. i've blown a front tire before in a car and managed to maintain control. in the pathfinder i probably wouldn't have survived. that's why my wife and i retired the pathfinder and do our travelling in the accord.

long answer to a short question - but thanks for writing in!!

A little battery charging, and some silicone brake fluid, and we made it down to the local gassing hole for a 20 gallon sip (1/4 tank).

I was looking for an H2 to park next to, but I didn't find one in any of the parking lots around town. Saw a couple on the road, so hope is not lost. Stay tuned...

p.s. Loved your DVD. Cool stuff indeed!

I can help you with this, explosives are relatively cheap. The amount required to properly blow up an SUV would probably cost less than a couple hundred dollars, and that much would probably reduce the SUV to the frame. Let me know if you need any assistance with this, I am also in Arizona, and this would be a lot of fun to do. Thanks!

hi James:
cool! so you know how to use dynamite? if so,lets talk for sure cause i haven't contracted anyone yet about it. also, email me your mailing address and i'll put a dvd in the mail to you that has some great footage of the flying and crashing cars.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! My address is:
Actually, dynamite isn't really the way to go,there are better, safer to handle explosives to use, that also give a really good result.

Great... i'm not particular about what exactly blows up the pathfinder as long as its thoroughly wrecked! i'll get a dvd in the mail to you first thing tomorrow. thanks!

Hi, I got the DVD, and it looks great! If you have a date in mind to blow up the Pathfinder, let me know, as I need to either order or pick up the explosives. I can set up the demo if you can pick up the explosives cost (less than $100). Also, what kind of effect are you looking for? I thought a good way would be to flip the truck over with the charge. I can also put a gasoline container nearby for a nice fireball if that's the kind of effect you're looking for. Thanks!

hi James:
i'd like to do it within the next few weeks or so. i have to find a location where they'll allow me to do it, preferably a dry lake bed where we can dig up the parts or perhaps in some contained area where the parts wouldn't scatter too much. regarding the explosion - a fireball would look great but i'm actually looking for a clean blast, one that would shred the pathfinder into lots of pieces with minimal smoke and fire. i could just see the headlines, "hypocrite tree hugger protests suvs with toxic fireball blast! - but i'm definitely down with paying for the explosives and other expenses that come up. might have to blow the thing quick cause if the war goes down it'll barely make a pop in the fireworks show. how long do you think it would take to get the explosives?
joe

That sounds good. I won't be able to do it on weekend of Feb 22nd or Mar 1st, but anytime after that would be fine. Where approximately is the location you're looking at? I should be able to pick up the explosives locally, but if anything else I can order them, and have them in less than a week. Thanks for the quick reply!

hi James:
i'm out for the night - perhaps we should shoot for the second weekend or perhaps a weekday in march if that works for you. in the meantime, i'll try to dig up permission from a landowner in the desert somewhere... will keep you posted. just curious, how did you learn explosives? do you work with explosives for a living? how much space should i get to safely do this project? will the pieces fly very far from "ground zero"? i'll be back in the office tomorrow morning. thanks!!
joe

I have set up a few demos for machine gun shoots as an assistant. We set up exploding targets to shoot and also set up a charge in a couple cars and vans. Minimum distance would be 1/4 mile (400 yards). There shouldn't be any small pieces flying very far, usually the car is just pretty well torn up. I have also done a lot of targets and small appliances and such for my own shooting fun. I have a video clip somewhere, I'll try to put it on a site.

cool... we'd be setting up a pretty big package of explosives to twist this thing into an interesting configuration. i'll keep working on the location and will keep you posted. thanks man. all the best
