Why does it mean that just because a vehicle is large in size mean that it a gaspig? Most of those Toyotas are only 4 and 6 cylinders! Which is the same as most all the cars on the road. Besides, bigger vehicles are SAFER!

Hi Doug
whether or not big vehicles are safer depends on your perspective. The honda civic gets a better over all safety rating than most big SUVs! in a crash, how the vehicle crumples or stays upright is far more important than size. in a head on collision with a suburban the civic would lose and that's the argument the big car proponents make, but it's a twisted spin on the issue of safety because most of the time collisions aren't head on. that safety information has been fed to you by profit driven companies and you ate it up. the car and oil guys are laughing all the way to the bank at your expense. lets replace cars with a hefty tree - would you rather hit the tree in the honda or the surburban? (hint: pick the honda cause you're more likely to live. it crumples better than the suburban - the suburban would look better after the hit, but inside, you'd be soup) ok, lets try a blown out tire - again, pick the honda if you want better odds - better CG, easier to control when compromised by blown tire. blow a tire in an expedition and say a prayer cause you're riding high and that ain't good. as for motors - a 6 cylinder accord will get almost double the mileage as a 4 cylinder 4-runner - weight and aerodynamics play important roles in fuel efficiency.

thanks for the letter... i got your other letter and i'll try to write back tomorrow -

How are you saving fuel buy flying a huge plane into the air to drop a vehicle through the sky? That sure does take a lot of fuel too. And to blow something up? That puts lots ozone attacking chemicals into the air also. It doesn’t seem that your helping all too much. Just trying to get some attention.

hey Doug
i've got a few minutes so here goes... you're right! planes are huge gaspigs and i make my living as a gaspig skydiver. hauling an suv to altitude does take lots and lots of gas. we try to hitch rides on planes that are already doing drop tests, but lugging vehicles makes planes work harder so we're pigging on fuel. couple of thoughts real quick: we're not protesting planes or trains or cranes or trucks or even light trucks, we're not seeking a ban on the internal combustion engine. the protest is about the millions and millions of light trucks and SUVs that in the last decade have become all the rave, in vogue, a fashion statement, chick, a status symbol, trendy. silly beings that we are, we're willing to spend top dollar at the dealership and even topper dollar week after week at the pump just to project an image "i'm adventure guy, or girl or whatever". we're like a bunch of ramp models in a parade. no problem with a fad like bell bottom jeans, but the "family truck" is a potential nightmare!

picture a swimming pool filled with gas. every day the pool is drained by SUVs. now picture my team taking half a teaspoon of gas from that pool once every month or so to crank out a publicity stunt - hoping to make SUVs just a little less fashionable. when people protest chopping down a forest, should they not use signs or petitions because of the paper? the first person who said, "hey, maybe we could beat this raging forest fire by starting another fire over here" was probably tossed in jail.

i'm rationalizing on the fly. definitely open to suggestions.
