BACK:
I am one of the many people that do
drive a large vehicle, although I am doing my part for the
environment. My daily driver is an 86 civic, that is in
awesome condition, and gets 30+ mpg. My Toyota Tacoma 4x4 truck
on the other hand gets around 16 mpg, and is mainly used for
recreation on the weekends and for just minor putting around. It
is one of the rare 4x4's that are used for the intended use of
going off the pavement. I do agree whole heartedly that too many
people are getting the SUV's for status symbols, and there needs
to be either extra taxes on vehicles over a certain weight, as
well as many other fees to cut down on their use. I have to
register my truck as commercial in California, but an excursion
at over twice the weight gets a car registration fee. That is
bogus. Too many times have I almost gotten killed by some dizzy
blonde on a cell phone in her expedition with the soccer mom
stickers on it. I hope that the government pulls their head out
of their ass before it is too late.
Please send me a sticker for my civic.
Thanks,
TJ
hi TJ
thanks for the letter and some good points. it's a bummer for
people who really use trucks, either commercially or for
recreation. suddenly everyone and their grandma is a trucker -
because it's in vogue - and the line between commercial trucks
and family trucks is blurred. ultimately, off-road enthusiasts,
contractors, gardeners, and others who really use trucks will pay
a price as trucks become more regulated. not to mention, our tax
dollars paying to support military operations aimed at keeping
the oil pipes open. all this to support a fashion statement...
whew. i get letters from expedition drivers claiming 20mpg - your
tacoma gets 16 and my pathfinder gets approx 15. they must mean
20 mpg down hill. i'd be psyched to send you stickers - email me
your mailing address and i'll get them in the mail.
all the best!
