From Rob:

Your absolutely right, we should not be dependent on foreign oil from people who hate us.

Here's an idea, drill for it here in the vast United States of America. There is more than enough places here to fulfill our needs. Contrary to what you whinny liberals think, Alaska is not going to implode if we drill there.

I hate to tell this but GET A LIFE!

SUV's are only getting more and more popular and as soon as my Explorer's lease is up I think I'll get one of those BMW SUV's. I can't wait! Of course it will never see the "off road" as my Explorer never did either. I guess this makes me a doubly bad person. As if it would be OK if we did go off road?

Why don't you focus your energy on fat people? Do you have any idea how much money fat people cost the American taxpayer? I guess that wouldn't be politically correct enough for you though. Liberals always go after the easy target, that way they don't have to be accountable.

Better yet, why don't you focus your energy on something that might make a difference in someone else's life. How about the Special Olympics or Make a Wish Foundation. Unfortunately for you, these organizations wont make you feel as self important. They don't give you a giant bumper sticker or anything. And you generally can't go around town telling everybody all the good that you do, as you do now.

Nevermind, keep making a fool of yourself. It suits you!

thanks for the email - and thanks for at least giving us the point that oil dependence sucks.

regarding your other points, gaspig isn't taking a position on drilling in the US - perhaps drilling here would help solve the oil dependence problem but i doubt it would do much good if we all keep driving gas guzzlers. again, 12-15mpg is a joke as are top heavy wannabe trucks like the explorer and pathfinder, which are dwarfed by the newer heavy rides like the expedition and so on. what's so bad about conservation?

regarding your next suv, probably the bmw will handle better than the explorer and you'll be less likely to roll over so that's good but not half as good as a volvo v-70 or subaru outback where you have better mileage, access to the roof rack, and far superior handling on the road. but if you want to throw down the cash for the big ride and the gas it guzzles, and sacrifice handling and mileage, nobody's stopping you. but we don't have to be impressed that you "wouldn't, but you could".

regarding fat people, liberals, the special olympics, feeling self important, getting a life and so on... what the heck, we can't do it all. however i've donated a fair amount of my time to the special olympics if that helps. i drove a pathfinder for fifteen years before i realized what a waste it was so i'm no higher on the moral ladder than you, and my wife thinks i'm a nut for being involved with this gaspig project so i can't argue with you about "getting a life".

but i guarantee, if you test drive a v-70 just once and feel its power and handling, you'll have a hard time spending the cash on another suv.

all the best, sincerely
the Pig
