Gaspig.com is obnoxious, silly, perhaps even offensive. Please understand, it's not about insulting people who drive SUVs. I drove a Pathfinder for years, so I'm no better than anybody. But the headlines kept coming, one problem after another having to do with Oil Dependence, Smog, possible Climate Change, all of that. The more I read, the harder it was to keep my head buried in the sand.
Basically the Gaspig message is:
1. Please, think twice at the dealership about what you really
need for your family.
2. SUVs are "commercially rated" vehicles. We need
trucks, but not for our private transportation.
3. The best and ULTIMATE SUV is a good pair of hiking boots - get
out and PARTICIPATE!
4. Owning an SUV does not make a person "outdoorsy".
Don't believe the hype!
5. Buy a car! And every year you can use the money you save to go
on a REAL EXPEDITION!

From a letter
responding to an SUV owner upset about the gaspig sticker he saw
on a car:
".... When consumers demand cleaner cars, the auto Industry responds by developing cleaner cars.
Our democratic government responds to its citizen's demands much in the same way.
Its not a few tree huggers or politicians bent on taking away your suv, its MOST of the people around you.
Not just because its silly to imitate adventure.
Near your SUV, people are less
safe in their cars, they can't see around you, and most folks
know you're
burning twice the gas and emitting twice the fumes. That's why
you saw the gaspig.com sticker on somebody's car.
They wanted you to read this."
